The Best MMA Gyms in Texas 2022

Texas has a history of producing awesome fighters and boxers, with the list of All-Stars including the likes of Jack Johnson, Terry Norris and Tony Ayala Jr.

Today, upcoming combatants are sweating it out in Texas MMA gyms, hoping to join the ranks of elite MMA fighters around the states - and around the world.

If you live in Texas and you’re looking to build up your resistance in a gym, the good news is that the Lone Star State is home to a fine array of top-notch gyms. In this article, we’ll be giving you the low-down on the best MMA gyms in Texas that are available to join in 2022.

Ready to kick some ass? Let’s see what you’ve got to choose from.

Elite MMA

kids jiu jitsu

Location: 11380 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077

Elite MMA has multiple gyms across Texas, including ones in Houston, Humble and Baytown.

Their gyms are huge, and as well as MMA you can also level-up your kickboxing, boxing and muay thai skills.

Brazilian jiu jitsu training is also available, and you can sign-up for a free initial session.

As per its name, the prime focus is on MMA. What's more, the main training facility is located in Houston, with a number of school locations around Texas.

The gym has been open since 1993 and has trained more than 10,000 students.

Midtown MMA Houston

Location: 4916 Main St #120, Houston, TX 77002

Midtown MMA Houston opened its doors in 2010. It was launched by Professor Christ Martinez, who himself has been learning Brazilian jiu jitsu for over 20 years.

Professor Chris is the heart of Midtown MMA Houston. He’s now a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt (he was a blue belt when he launched the gym), and his gym welcomes both men and women who want to learn the art of self-defense, and build confidence and fearlessness via MMA.

Children are also welcome to join, and there are gyms located in various parts of Texas, including the Museum District, North Side and East Side, South Side and the Southwest areas.

As a huge bonus, there’s a whopping 30-day free trial available for new members. This is way better than the usual one free session promo offered at most other gyms, and it will give you a chance to see whether or not this is the right MMA gym in Texas for you.

Metro Fight Club

Location: 767 N Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77007, United States

You’ll find the Metro Fight Club situated inside the gigantic O Athletik training facility. Here, you can practice yoga, lift weights - and, of course, train MMA.

One of the most notable aspects of Metro Fight Club is that its former main guy, Saul Soliz, was known as the “godfather of Texas MMA” for a very good reason: Not only did he help to lay down the foundations for MMA in Texas in the early nineties, he’s run numerous cage matches in local bars - as well as coached actual UFC champs.

Sadly, Soliz passed away in 2021, but his spirit lives on at Metro Fight Club. The baton has passed over to a new group of coaches who have rebranded the club as Metro Fight Club Legacy. The deal is still the same: To continue establishing Metro as the number one MMA club in the states, with a strong focus on discipline, integrity and respect.

Next Level Training Center and MMA

Location: 26910 Tomball Pkwy, Tomball, TX 77375, United States

Located in Tomball, Next Level Training Center and MMA specializes in MMA training, as well as Brazilian jiu jitsu, wrestling and muay thai.

Classes are offered on the daily, with Friday being open gym day, and Saturday being open mat day.

And because the gym is located within a self-storage facility, it very much sports a DIY aesthetic. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, Next Level Training Center and MMA might be for you.

What’s more, it’s built on a tight knit community of fighters and has a very family-friendly feel.

If you do join the gym, you’ll be training alongside fighters who regularly step into the cage, as well as highly experienced black belt coaches.

Corvo Martial Arts

Location: 810 W Arapaho Rd Suite 66, Richardson, TX 75080, United States

If you’re looking for a Brazilian jiu jitsu gym that also doubles up as an excellent MMA gym in Texas, Corvo Martial Artist is worth a check-in.

Located in Richardson, TX, this gym has excellent customer reviews and claims to be home to the “best training environment.” According to the reviews we read - this claim might be valid.

Corvo Martial Arts offers both Nogi and Gi classes, and there are also classes for women available.

New members can get started with a free trial class, which you can easily schedule online, and if you’ve got a young family and want to get your little ones started in the art of combat, there are even classes for 4-8 year-olds on offer.

Wolfpack Mixed Martial Arts

Location: 179 County Line Rd, Rockwall, TX 75032, United States

Wolfpack Mixed Martial Arts is about as authentic as Texas MMA gyms come. You can learn a wide variety of martial arts disciplines here, including muay thai, Brazilian jiu jitsu and boxing.

There’s also - of course - an MMA class that brings everything together in one place.

New fighters get access to a free private lesson, as well as a 30-day free trial in which you get to train alongside a pro MMA fighter.

The gym is located in Rockwall. There's an awesome 6-week challenge that gives you access to a customized meal plan, but it’s also worth mentioning that all the classes are evening classes only.

These are the best Texas MMA gyms. As ever before you join a gym, it’s always good to “try before you buy.” As such, if a gym catches your eye, make sure to take advantage of any offers of a free session first before you make a longer term commitment.

If possible, meet the trainers, chat to them and learn more about their methods and their gym. This will further help you decide whether or not a gym is the right one for you.
